Mar 31, 2008 - this is extreme, but it definitely proves a point. the school I went I feel was smack dab inbetween. Orinally a school that serve a rural district, my igh school has feel victim to suburban sprawl and, as a result, are not able to keep the schools facilities updated with the volume of students it recieves each year. classes are in most classes. Also fell victim to the fucking No Child Left Behind Act, meaning no funding. Instead of giving away cars, Oprah should help fund that school.

Mar 31, 2008 - Unfortunately, my school also has no Cinderella ending either. over 25% of my class did not recieve their dipolmas. teachers are constantly complaining they aren't getting paid enough. adminsitrative politics are turning faculty members on each other to the point where good teachers are leaving for better pay and better work enviorment. With very few schools excluded, our schools are still segrated and areas that need the most attention are recieving the least. Its a disgrace.

Jun 10, 2008 - Well done for exposing this. That is horrific. That in the first country in the world?!

Sep 10, 2008 - we doesn't she or anyone else for that matter talk about rural schools too instead of inner-city all the time my school was not unlike harper except that it was predominately white. I really feel like what people might consider as po' white trash is beginning to come some of the most forgotten about children in the world

Sep 18, 2008 - Those kids in Harper High have been cheated. Mostly by their parents.

Dec 3, 2008 - This is really sad and these disparities exist everywhere. I went to a relatively good inner city high school, but even within the school there were glaring differences when it came to which students were taking which classes. The students from the neighboring upper class town predominately made up the Honors and AP classes, which only a handful of students from the city and my smaller town were in. What it comes down to is that the more affluent communities demand more and get it.

Jun 10, 2009 - When I was in highschool I did an aricle in my school newspaper that I wish had got more attention, it was basically the same story.. I went to a school just like Harper, Called Fowler highschool located in syracuse ny. My best friend went to Baker high which is a suburban school in Baldwinsville ny. and even though each school is less then an hour away from each other it was amazing how different the two schools in fact were. Maybe my lousy newspaper article didn't change anything but Hopefully

Pam4Rob Says:

Jun 10, 2009 - (cont) hopefully more people will pay attention now a days, because its not getting any better. Its getting worse. These inner city kids have very low moral for doing anything. I was one of them.. Just now am I going to college and its been 10 years since I graduated HS, only now Do I believe I have some potential. We had great teachers ( some) not all but just the lack of resourses didn't help at all.

Pam4Rob Says:

Jun 10, 2009 - I just hope those suburban kids know just how lucky they really are. I hope they dont take it for granted.
